  • 3 December 2003 - Life is returning to some normality/goodness.

hmm, 3 Dec, there goes a month and a half since i last did this.

however i have a reasonable excuse, a myriad of them realy.

first and most relevant is that one of our employers passed away about a month ago, needless to say this was highly stressfull and distressing to Jenny and myself, especialy as one of our last employers died shortly after we started there as well. Much speculating was done by me and Jenny on how we are cursed or whatever, but we kinda agreed in the end that perhaps we were put in these positions because we are able to help the family so well at such times.

Things are starting to get back to normal now though, after a month and a bit of working in chelsea instead of in the country our remaining employer has finaly come back down for a couple of weekends. We are starting to settle back into work here as well after gettng so used to the kitchen and house in london.

We have moved into our house in Cranleigh now and are settling in reasonably well, we have all the services running, i am still waiting for our dsl modem to arrive. We bought a couple of old office desks and set them up in the spare bedroom/study and they are perfect for the computer, soon to be computers hopefully.

We are thinking of maybe going on a short skiing holiday shortly into the new year but havnt looked into it in great detail.

other than that we are working, relaxing on our days off, and moaning about the british winter at every oportunity : )

hopefully i actualy will update again shortly, maybe take some Xmas photos, on that topic i bought a camera, more for a laugh than anything else, its a russian made Zenith "PhotoSniper" which has a massive telephoto lense and a rifle like mounting i suspect i can at least sell it at a profit later but for now its a pretty cool relic of the cold war era. Due to all the travel too and from london i didnt get a chacne to photograph any of the autumn leaves around here which is quite a dissapointment as they looked amazing, especialy when it was windy or i was driving.

cya all, and btw heres my new address and phone number.

    9 October 2003 - Life is good.

    well, long time no update.

Me and Jenny have our new job secured, we have completed the 1 month probationary period with flying colours and a couple of large tips : ). We should be moving into our own house at some point over the next month which will be quite nice, a bit of painting etc to do there but its a nice place that suits us well.

Me and jenny got a new cell phone as well, on a contract so we will have to start calling ppl instead of texting them. We got the Siemens SL55 cos its real small and pretty : )

umm, in the process of sorting out all our photos for uploading, currently 671 photos totaling 527MB ready to upload. I will send them up soon.

thats all for the moment, hopefully i will start updating more regularly soon.
    4 September 2003 - New job, hooray!!!

Well its been a while since i updated, sorry to anyone who reads this (mum).

First off, we have a new job, its in Surrey about 45 mins drive from joels place and is a good long term job.

While looking for work over the last 2 and a bit weeks we interviewed and did a 2 day trial for a couple in a mansion inside a wildlife park. We didnt get the job which we werent too dissapointed about, however if we had it would have been the second time Jenny had worked for him, seeing as he owns the dunedin cassino.

On the more fun side of life we have been staying with Joel & Family and the first weekend we were here Joel had his big BBQ that he had been planning for at least a month. None of his friends showed up. Much hilarity was had over this and in general by the people that were here, Me, Jenny, Mars, Brett (mars' BF) and Richard.

I will put a photo or two here shortly from the BBQ.

So now life is good and sorted, me and Jenny are going to france for a few days, have a bit of a break and then come back to start the new job.

I will try to update a bit more regularly, however I am not promising anything seeing as the only thing stopping me from putting this update up was lazyness, CS and PS2 : ). Bye

    16 August 2003 - Life Goes On

Well, today we are leaving the castle. Pretty sad day, joel is coming down and driving us up to London with all our stuff. We will continue interviews etc from there and hopefully get work very shortly.

well i dont have much more to say, so heres a parting view of the mount.

10 August 2003 - Sigh, lifes so unfair.

As you can probably guess from the title we didnt get the hampshire job. The reason kinda reconfirms my view on a large portion of employers in this country.

See according to the couple we were pretty much perfect for the job, but they wanted someone with more experience, someone that has been doing this kinda work for years. Now what i have seen in this country is that almost all hiring is done on one or two basis, Age or Experience. now personaly i can see merit in hiring on experience, however age is irrelevant in almost all cases. Not only is it irrelevant but its also illegal to hire on the grounds of age.

Now if only people could get past their ageism and try hiring people based on how well they can do the job, its a novel concept around here im sure but I personaly feel that its more fair and effective. If you hire someone because they are competant.

On a brighter note we have been in contact with the agency and they have us lined up for another job in Canterbury, Kent. Whats even better about this job is that they seem to be sensible people who hire on grounds of competance and the agency said that its likely they will want us for a 1 month trial almost certainly.

That said we still arent putting all our eggs in one basket as we did (at my stupid request) with the hampshire job, i am actualy listening to jenny and we are continueing to look for work instead of wasting weeks waiting for interviews for one job, no matter how good it looks.
    01 August 2003 - 2nd call back : )

Well we have a second callback for the job in Hampshire, this time we are viewing the property with them. So we are heading up to london this sunday and coming back on tuesday (as the plan currently stands).

Joel and family came down last weekend, a good time was had by all. Sandcastles were built, rides were riden and Shelly spent lots of money on jewlery. Found the kids actualy eat and like cornish pasties which was a surprise to us all.

Ben and friends are arriving tonight and staying till sunday morning when they catch the train back to cambridge, stopping in exeter for the eden project along the way.

The new couple that will be taking over for us arrived on wednesday afternoon and are settling in pretty well, they are heading to NZ in a couple of months and hope to base themselves in wellington or the south island somewere. Good to see people with the sense not to bother with auckland : )

    23 July 2003 - Im back

I just got back from London, sooooooo tired.

The trip went well over all, luckily we decided to spend the night in Newquay instead of driving up in the early morning. When we got in the car to drive up it had a flat battery, which was fine as it was the middle of the day. If we had left when we were originaly planning to we would have been up shit creek without a paddle.

Other than that it all went smoothly and we are waiting for word back about the job, fingers crossed.

    20 July 2003 - Slight update
